Writing for a buyer, not a seller
This site’s guides exist because the Bali stone market runs largely on verbal claims made across a counter. A buyer standing in Ubud has no laboratory and about ninety seconds to decide. So our guides are built for that moment: how to tilt a stone to find the flash angle rather than accepting the seller’s angle, how to spot a doublet or a backed cabochon by looking at the girdle, what a triplet’s join line looks like under a phone torch, and which price points are implausible for the size and quality being described.
What we check before publishing a claim
Mineralogical statements — composition, hardness, cleavage behaviour and why labradorescence occurs at all — are taken from standard mineralogical references rather than from vendor copy, since vendor copy in this category is frequently wrong about the optical mechanism. Metaphysical claims are reported as beliefs held in the trade, attributed as such, and never presented as physical or medical fact.
